GRE - Graduate Record Examination

GRE general test is divided into 3 parts

1) Verbal reasoning
It meassures your ability to analyse and evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained from it, analyse relationships among component parts of sentences and recognize relationships between words and concepts.
It comprises of 30 questions to be answered in 30 minutes. The question types includes sentence completion, analogy, antonym, and reading comprehension.

2) Quantitative reasoning
It measures your ability to understand basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis, reason quantitatively, and solve problems in a quantitative setting.
You have to complete 28 questions in 45 minutes.

3) Analytical writing section
It measures your ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively, examine claims and accompanying evidence, support ideas with relevant reasons and examples, sustain a well-focused, coherent discussion
control the elements of standard written English.
First task is of issue writing for 45 minutes. Second task argument analysis to be completed in 30 minutes.

Computer Adaptive Test (CAT)
The GRE test is computer adaptive, so you can not skip any question. You score changes with every question you answer. Computer adapts to your ability.

Verbal and Quantitative section scores in the range of 200-800 and score is provided immediately after the test. Analytical writing section is scored in the range of 0-6 and is available after 15-20 days of the test.
