Roadmap to USA. Your One-Stop Guide to Study in the US. 

This is my effort to Explain the complex procedure of getting admission in an american University in a simplified way. Follow the timeline and start working for your dream destination.

2 Years in Advance of when you want to start Studying in US

  • Start thinking and planning.
  • Find what you are interested in
  • Search Programs that interest you and the Universities in US that offer them.
  • Try to consult your seniors who have done it and know their experiences

15 Months

  • Shortlist Universities and Programs that you want to apply
  • Find out minimum requirements and application deadlines for application.
  • Find out deadlines for Financial aid application
  • Find out exam requirements (GRE, GMAT, TOEFL or IELTS)
  • Start Preparing for the Exams
  • Schedule Examination dates at least 3 months before the application deadlines.

12 Months

  • Give the Competitive Exam (GRE, GMAT, IELTS or TOEFL)
  • Submit the Official Scores to the Universities you planning to apply.
  • Obtain Official Transcripts from your University
  • Update your resume
  • Prepare Your SOP (Statement of Purpose) 
  • Get Recommendation letters from your Professors.
  • Make arrangements for the required bank balance.

9 Months

  • Apply - Online Application - Pay Fees Online
  • Submit Documents Via Mail (Transcripts, LORs, Proof of Financial Support, See List, )
  • Submit Official Scores if not already done 

6 Months

  • Follow up with your Application
  • Online Tracking or Contacting Admissions Office
  • Typically application review starts after the deadline but some Universities have rollover deadlines where they review applications as they come
  • You will receive Official Admission Letter and I-20 form if you get admission
  • Multiple Admissions - Select on the basis of 
  1. Your Interest
  2. Course Curriculum, 
  3. Scholarship and Job Prospectus.
  4. Part time Job Availability
  5. Reputation of the University with F1 Visas

Last 6 Months

  • Once You accept the Admission and pay the required acceptance fee, the last 6 months will be spent in preparing for Visa
  • getting Student Loan/Arranging for Fees and Tuition
  • Apply for Visa
  • Schedule Appointment
  • Visa Interview
  • Book Flight (Try to reach At least two weeks before the school start so you get time to get settled down
  • Contact Indian Student Organization or Organization of your Country
  • Ask them to arrange temporary accommodation
  • Try to contact other students going for the same university or already studying there
  • get help in finding right apartment
  • Prepare for your trip
